Monotypes are unique prints (only one print can be pulled). There are two basic ways of working a monotype plate, positive and negative. Working in positive means adding ink to the clean plate with brush, fingers, toothpicks etc. Once the image is finished it is transfered to the paper using a press. Working in negative means the plate is first inked completely with a roller. Then the same tools are used to remove ink until you are satisfied with the result and print.
